Literature Text

If you could spend even one day in my shoes,
how lucky you'd be! How lucky you'd be!

Nothing to gain, and nothing to lose!
How lucky you'd be! How lucky you'd be!

A head with plenty of room left to spare!
How lucky you are! How lucky you are!

And too much fatigue to to feel pain or to care.
How lucky you are! How lucky you are!

Like a knight in shining armor you'd walk.
How lucky you'd be! How lucky you'd be!

Hollow inside, yet outside, a facade.
How lucky you'd be! How lucky you'd be!

And if you should venture to look in the bank,
how lucky you are! How lucky you are!

What an artist requires: like a canvas, it's blank!
How lucky you are! How lucky you are!

And if it is fame that you truly desire,
how lucky you'd be! How lucky you'd be!

A decade of unfinished work to inspire!
How lucky you'd be! How lucky you'd be!

Should worry still enter a spot in your mind,
how lucky you are! How lucky you are!

My memories are constantly eaten by time!
How lucky you are! How lucky you are!

If you could spend even one day in my shoes,
how lucky you'd be, how lucky you'd be!

Nothing to gain, and nothing to lose!
How lucky! Lucky, indeed!

This poem works much better if you read it aloud to yourself. It looks kind of odd on the page, but I love the rhythm of it. It reminds me of Cyrano de Bergerac, which I read last month.
